RC Nights Round 7 Recap

Modesto, CA (Aug 13th)– Saturday Night round seven of RC Nights 2013 took place at Modesto RC Raceway in Modesto, California. 80 entries spread out over 8 very competitive divisions took to the outdoor off road RC track.
The Stock 2WD Short Course division saw a record high 18 entries for the evening. Three time winner Doug Frid set TQ as he was the only driver to complete 17 laps in one of the two 6 minute qualifying heats. Frid jumped out to a early race lead before being passed by Chris “Team” Jones on lap three. Jones never looked back as he scored his first win in the division in a brand new Team Durango SCT. Frid would finish 4.5 seconds behind Jones followed by Rod Salmon, B Main Winner John Harrison, and Eddie Alves rounding out the top five. Udo Richter finished sixth followed by Casey Nydahl, Kirk Baker, Anthony Varner, and John Smith rounding out the top ten. Going into the final round Frid leads the point standings followed by Salmon, Harrison, Alves, and Varner.
In Stock 2WD Buggy Derek Stephansen bested 13 other racers to set TQ. Stephansen would later go on to win the A Main with Derrick Trinidad finishing second. The two traded the top spot several times in the opening laps before Stephansen pulled away late beating Trinidad by just over 10 seconds. Doug Frid finished third, two time winner Ron Bickel fourth, and Rod Salmon fifth. Just missing the top five was B Main Winner Brent Riddles, Frank Lagomarsino, Larry Slowpez, Team Jones, and Ray Gong. Bickel currently sits a top the point standings heading into the final double points round.
The 4X4 Buggy division also saw Derek Stephansen set TQ with a total of 11 entries in the division. Stephansen cruised to his third straight victory of the season beating Doug Frid, heat race winner Ray Gong, Cary Wright, and Kirk Baker. Frank Lagomarsino found himself sixth after winning a earlier heat race, Ken Farmer seventh, with Derrick Trinidad, Billy Martin, and Will Perry rounding out the top ten.
The 4X4 Short Course division also had 11 entries for the night. There was no stopping Derrick Trinidad who earned his fifth victory in six races this season. Trinidad also set TQ earlier in the evening. Frank Lagomarsino finished second followed by Ray Gong, heat race winner John Harrison, and Bling Bling rounding out the top five. Doug Frid who won a earlier heat race finished sixth, Dan Lowry seventh, Kirk Baker eight, Eric Todd night and Anthony Varner tenth.
The Open 2WD Short Course division had 9 entries for the night. Anthony Varner would set TQ after round two of qualifying. The A Main went to Eddie Alves as he flipped crossing the scoring loop on the final lap. Early race leader Udo Richter would finish second just .673 seconds behind Alves. Varner would hold on for third, Larry Slowpez fourth, Will Perry fifth, Nate Holderbein sixth, Roy Birchler seventh, with Ken Farmer and Vinnie Debarros rounding out the top nine. Heat race wins went to Varner(2), Alves, and Perry.
Bling Bling won his fifth straight All-Out division A Main. Finishing second was Robert Merrill, top qualifier Billy Martin, Tosh Kajioka, and J.R. McClain fifth. Donnie Boger would finish sixth, Mr. Broken seventh, and Robbie Hayes eight. Billy Martin won both heats.
The 8 entry Novice division saw Ethan Lewis win his second race in a row. Lewis finished ahead of Trey Jones, Tosh Kajioka, A.J. Varner, and Robbie Hayes fifth. Gary Holderbein would finish sixth, Tyler Castro seventh, and Lucas Trinidad eight. Heat race wins went to Jones and Castro with Jones setting TQ on the night.
The open stadium truck division saw Aaron Castro take the victory of Casey Nydahl.

The final round double points night of RC Nights 2013 will resume on Saturday, August 24th at Modesto RC Raceway located at 4307 Coffee Road in Modesto.
