RC Nights Round 4 Report

Modesto, CA (July 7) — Round four of RC Nights 2013 took place Saturday night at Modesto RC raceway with 66 entries spread out over eight divisions. Temperature’s in the low 90’s could not stop Ron Bickel as he continued his winning ways with a win in the Stock 2WD Buggy A Main. Bickel bested Rod Salmon by just over 11 seconds in the six minute main. Finishing third was Doug Frid followed by Derrick Trinidad, and Frank Lagomarsino. Bickel also set TQ earlier in the evening beating out eight other drivers.
The Stock 2WD Short Course class had the most entries with 14. Rod Salmon won his second race in a row followed by Eddie Alves, top qualifier Doug Frid, week one winner John Harrison and B Main winner Nate Holderbein rounding out the top five. Salmon was the only driver to complete 16 laps in the A main.
The 4X4 Short Course division had ten drivers start the six minute race as Derrick Trinidad continued his dominance by setting TQ and winning the A main. This was Trinidad’s third win in three starts this season. Frank Lagomarsino finished 3.976 seconds behind Trinidad followed by Dan Lowry, Ray Gong, and John Harrison.
Doug Frid picked up his second win of the season in the 4X4 Buggy class after top qualifier Derrick Trinidad had mechanical problems early on. Frank Lagomarsino finished second with Kirk Baker third, Ray Gong fourth, and Will Perry fifth.
Eddie Alves won his second straight Open 2WD Short Course A main in a row followed by Anthony Varner, Nate Holderbein, Roy Birchler, and Will Perry. Varner set TQ in round one of qualifying earlier in the afternoon.
Doug Frid picked up his second A main win of the night in the Open Stadium Truck division. Frid who also set TQ beat Aaron Castro and Casey Nydahl scoring his third win in a row.
The Novice division had 13 entries for the evening. Tony Perez set TQ and won the five minute A Main over Ethan Lewis, Trey Jones, Francisco Garcia and Gary Holderbein. Aj Varner and Dennis Conde transferred to the A main after finishing 1-2 in the B main.
The All Out Division which mainly consists of 4X4 trucks saw Bling Bling finish first followed by Tony Perez, Robert Merrill and Mr. Broken. This was Bling Bling’s second win in a row.
Round 5 of RC Nights 2013 will resume on Saturday, July 20th at Modesto RC Raceway located at 4307 Coffee Road in Modesto. Gates open at 3:30 PM with racing set to start at 5:30 PM. For more information, complete race results and point standings log on to Modesto RC’s website at modestorc.com
